Zagori is the ideal destination if you are looking for an authentic region, quiet and not too crowded, with impressive landscapes and charming villages and amazing gorges (one of the deepest in the world). During your 5-day hiking itinerary in Zagori you will follow very beautiful paths, changing the hotel and the village every day and spending a couple of days at the altitude of 2000 with one night in the mountain hut.
Hiking program
Day 1.
Arrival to Zagori in the early afternoon and the first hike (optional). Your hiking itinerary passes through the villages of Kipi and Koukouli; you will cross several arch stone bridges – masterpieces of traditional architecture built in the middle of narrow gorges or wide valleys. The numerous bridges in the Zagoria region were built starting from the 18th century by locals to facilitate travel, communication and trade. At the end of the hike you arrive to Monodendri village and spend one night in a family run hotel.

Day 2.
Beginning of the hike from Monodendri. You will walk down the Vikos Gorge, one of the deepest in the world. A beautiful walk in the middle of a wild and green landscape. After this long and fascinating hike you arrive at the traditional village of Papigo. One night accommodation in a family run pension in Papigo.

Day 3.
You start the hike from the village of Papigo and climb the Timfi mountain early in the morning. Once you reach the top, you continue your hike to the Astrakas hut located at 1950 meters above sea level. After a short break, you continue walking up to the Drakolimni lake. Located at 2000 meters above sea level, it offers a magnificent view of the Timfi mountain and the Aoos valley. At the end of the afternoon, you return to the Astraka hut. One night in the dormitory.

Day 4.
You leave the Astraka hut and walk to the village of Tsepelovo through the mountains of Timfi. Tsepelovo is the biggest village in Zagoria with beautiful stone buildings, old churches and nice little squares. One-night stay in a traditional family run pension in Tsepelovo.

Day 5.
(Optional hike) Early in the morning you leave your accommodation and follow a path that leads to Beloi, a panoramic viewpoint above the Vikos Gorge. Then you pass by Vradeto, the highest village of Zagori, and go down to the village of Kapesovo by the “Skala Vradetou”, stone stairs winding through the mountain which has become the symbol of the region. The minibus will pick you up at Kapesovo to bring you to the port of Igoumentsa. You take an evening ferry boat to Corfu (depending on the ferry schedule).

Luggage transfers
During your hikes you will carry only the things that you need for the day and you would find your luggage in the hotel in the end of the day.
Your luggage will be transferred by our partners from one village to another : from Monodendri to Papigo and from Papigo to Tsepelovo.
On Day 3 (Papigo – Astrakas) and on Day 4 (Astrakas – Tsepelovo) you would need to carry your personal belongings necessary for the day and for the night in the mountain hut, as there is no road going up to Astrakas. You will find your luggage in the evening of the Day 4 at your hotel in Tsepelovo.
